All About Me!

 My name is Makiyah Smalls, and I am a future mathematics educator. I chose education because I believe learning should be meaningful, supportive, and accessible to all students. Math has always been a subject that challenges people, and I want to help students feel more confident and capable when working with it.

I decided to become a math teacher because I enjoy problem-solving and helping others understand difficult ideas. Math is more than just numbers and formulas. It teaches critical thinking, persistence, and reasoning. I want my classroom to be a place where students feel safe asking questions and making mistakes while learning.

As a future teacher, I value patience, creativity, and fairness. I am interested in using technology and real-world examples to make math more engaging and easier to understand. I also believe in meeting students where they are and supporting different learning needs.

This blog is a space where I will share my growth as an educator, reflect on teaching strategies, and explore ways to make math meaningful for all learners. My goal is to continue learning so I can become the best teacher possible for my future students!

Reimagining Mathematics Through Technology

     Technology plays an important role in modern classrooms because it helps teachers meet student needs more effectively and makes learning more engaging. When used responsibly, educational technology can support understanding, improve organization, and provide students with meaningful feedback.      One EdTech tool I plan to use in my future classroom is MagicSchool AI . MagicSchool AI is designed to support teachers with planning, assessment, differentiation, and student supports. Instead of replacing teaching, it helps teachers work more efficiently so they can focus on students.      In my future classroom, I would use MagicSchool AI mainly for lesson planning, creating exit tickets, and generating differentiated practice .
